Research: After the launch of iPhone13, the preservation rate is much higher than that of any other iPhone

According to SellCell’s research, two months after its release, the depreciation rate of iPhone 13 series products has reached an unprecedented low level. SellCell’s research is based on data from 45 repurchase suppliers, which shows that the iPhone 13 has the highest value retention rate among all iPhones in the first two months after its launch. Overall, the average iPhone 13 model has only depreciated by 25.5%.

In contrast, the iPhone 11 series lost 44.6% of its value in the same period after its launch, and the iPhone 12 series lost 41% of its value. Between the first and second months after the launch, the iPhone 13 model depreciated only 0.6% on average, depreciated by 24.9% by the end of the first month, and depreciated by 25.5% by the end of the second month.

Some iPhone 13 models even regained their value after the initial decline in value after the launch. The iPhone 13 Pro Max with 1TB of storage restored 1.4% of the value, the 512GB model restored 1.7% of the value, and the 128GB model restored 1.8% of the value. The iPhone 13 Pro performed even better, with the 128GB model regaining 2% of its initial value, and the 256GB model regaining 4.6% of its initial value.

iPhone 13 mini is the product with the largest depreciation in the series, with 128GB and 256GB models depreciating 5% and 7.5% respectively. The lower depreciation rate may be due to setbacks such as component shortages, production cuts, and delays in shipments. These setbacks have reduced the supply of iPhone 13 models and pushed up the price of second-hand equipment.

Before Apple starts to fully satisfy the demand for iPhone 13 models, SellCell speculates that by the end of 2021, there may be more value recovery. It is said that iPhone 14 is unlikely to benefit from this unusual factor to suppress its rate of depreciation after listing, which makes this depreciation trend may be the slowest in a period of time.
