Microsoft: If we can improve existing methods, more games will get FPS increase

FPS Boost is a feature unique to this generation of XboxSeries consoles, allowing them to run old games at higher frame rates. Xbox project management director Jason Ronald said that although their support for enhanced backward compatibility has ended if they can find a way to further enhance this compatibility, they may one day return to this field to continue to expand the lineup.

For those who ask for clarification, we know that our current FPS Boost technology is only applicable to some games. This is similar to the resolution enhancement technology of Xbox One X. We have enabled FPS Boost in more than 130 games, and we are in many games. China has tried, but all others have failed.

Improving past games is very difficult because we have not made any actual changes to the source code of the game itself. If we can develop new ways to further enhance backward compatible games, we will continue to work hard, but we have not yet any progress.

According to Jason’s remarks, Microsoft may add more games to the FPSBoost/Resolution Boost lineup, but only if they need to find a better way than the current solution. Obviously, so far there is no sign that they have found a new method, but they did try the current FPS Boost method in many games, some games succeeded, some failed.

It is basically reasonable to assume that Microsoft has tested the game with high voices and requirements for enhancement, but it may just be that FPSBoost did not work in the end or there was a bug, and Microsoft did not add the FPS Boost feature to the game in the end.
