The December update worsens mobile connectivity on the Pixel 6

The Google Pixel 6 series smartphones have experienced various problems since their launch on the market. Unfortunately, the December security patch, which fixed various bugs, seems to have worsened the already known problems related to the mobile network connectivity of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owners complain of poor or no mobile network reception in areas where they previously received an optimal signal, resulting in the devices’ battery draining faster than normal. Some users also report slower mobile data speeds, however, the issue appears to primarily affect Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owners residing in Europe.

The December security update for Google Pixel 6 includes a new modem firmware that was supposed to fix the random signal loss bug that some users were experiencing, but from the number of reports that have appeared online in the last couple of days, it appears that the update made the situation worse.

Some users claim that disabling 5G has improved things to some extent, however, the only way out seems to make sure the smartphone is always connected to a Wi-Fi network. Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are equipped with a Samsung modem that has not been tested by the tests to be up to the Qualcomm modems present in almost all other smartphones sold in the United States, but this time the responsibility for the mobile connectivity problems seems to be the new firmware rather than the smartphone modem.

The advice is therefore not to install the December update on these devices until Google solves the problem.
