Microsoft Edge browser will support PDF files using built-in screenshot tool

Microsoft released the Edge browser based on the Chromium kernel in 2020, and then every month Microsoft will provide feature updates for the new version of the Edge browser. Currently, the Edge browser supports many PDF reading functions, such as support for PDF editor, support for PDF password generator, support for vertical label, better control of tracking or notification, etc. Now, the Edge browser has new functions and improvements in PDF.

In early 2021, Microsoft added a screenshot function to the Edge browser, allowing users to take screenshots of web pages. However, this feature does not support PDF documents, and now Microsoft is starting to improve this feature to make it applicable to PDF.

It is understood that Microsoft did not develop a new screenshot tool for PDF separately, but decided to improve the screenshot function of the current Edge browser to support PDF. Starting from Edge Canary version 99.0.1111.0, you can take full-screen screenshots of PDF documents with multiple pages.

If you want to experience this feature first, you need to download the Canary version of the Edge browser, and then you can find the corresponding options. After opening the PDF document, click the browser menu and select Screen Capture to start the screenshot tool, allowing you to capture the content of the PDF document.

Of course, you can also use the Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut key to activate the screenshot tool. The user can select the area to be captured in the screenshot process. After the screenshot is completed, another menu will pop up to facilitate adding notes. Users can paint on the screenshots with a variety of different colors, which is very convenient.

At present, the Edge browser’s function of taking PDF screenshots is still in the testing stage, and the function may be officially released in January or February next year when users will be able to conduct a comprehensive test.

In addition, Microsoft has also upgraded the Windows clipboard for the new Edge browser. According to media reports, related documents from Microsoft show that the new API allows users to copy and paste various files between the Windows 10 or Windows 11 browser and local applications. However, it has not yet been determined when this feature will be launched.
