LG Display ready to supply OLED panels for iPad by 2024

According to ET News, LG Display is preparing to supply Apple with OLED display panels that will be used in upcoming iPad models. LG’s preparations include expanding its plant in Paju, South Korea, which is said to be increasing production capacity in consideration of next-generation iPhone and iPad models.

The introduction of OLED panels in the iPad ostensibly presents a new opportunity for LG Display, given the size and aspect ratio of the device’s display, which rival suppliers currently cannot easily achieve. Another recent report said that BOE is also preparing to supply OLED panels for future iPad models.

While OLED displays could first appear on iPads next year, LG is planning to start mass-producing these panels at its Paju plant in 2024. This timing roughly matches other recent reports that put the OLED iPad launch between 2023 and 2024.

Early last year, LG was forced to stop making LCD panels for the iPhone and shuttered its smartphone division. The company has since restructured its business to switch to OLED panel production and is accelerating the expansion of its production capacity.

Now, LG plans to aggressively increase its presence in the Apple Display supply chain through an expansion investment strategy that will enable the Paju plant to produce twice as many sixth-generation OLED panels by 2024.
