Apple Music becomes the second largest music streaming service in the world

The latest data shows that Apple Music has become the second most popular music streaming service in the world, but it still has a long way to go to catch up with Spotify. According to a new report from Media Research, Apple Music is the second most used music streaming service. Apple Music currently has a market share of 15%, with nearly 524 million listeners worldwide.

Spotify remains the music streaming service with the highest market share (31%), but this is down from 33% in Q2 2020 and 34% in Q2 2019. Amazon Music and Tencent Music each have a 13% market share, while YouTube Music accounts for 8% of global subscriptions. The report stated that by the end of the second quarter of 2021, global music listeners had grown by 109.5 million, representing an increase of more than 26% year on year.

Apple’s music streaming service has been making some moves to differentiate itself from other music streaming services. Last year, the company released support for Dolby Atmos and spatial audio for lossless audio at no extra cost to users.
