New Google Chrome Improvement, makes manually saving website passwords easier

As of now, Chrome has not offered an option to manually save passwords to its password manager, but soon it will, allowing users to enter website addresses, usernames and passwords and ask Chrome to store them at any time. Here’s how to manually add a password in Chrome. Since its launch, Google has made a lot of improvements to Chrome’s password manager so far.

For example, the integrated password leak detection feature, allows you to scan for weak passwords that have been leaked on the network and perform batch checks for leaked and weak passwords as needed. Chrome also supports exporting passwords in CSV format, so you can import them to other devices, and supports editing passwords saved in the Chrome browser.

Note: Chrome browser now lets you save passwords to Google Account even when sync is turned off.

Why do you have to manually save passwords in Chrome in the first place?

  • Consider, you visit a website and enter your login credentials, Chrome displays a key icon for saving passwords, and you click No.
  • You filled in your username and password, but Chrome hasn’t asked you to store your password yet.
  • You may not want to import passwords from other browsers or password managers to avoid invalid and duplicate passwords.

How to manually add a password in the Chrome browser:

  • Open Chrome browser
  • Visit chorme://settings/passwords
  • Click the “Add” button that appears next to “Saved Passwords”
  • Manually add a password through the Chrome browser’s settings
  • In the Add Password dialog box, enter the website URL, username, and password in the respective fields, then click Save.

Note: The above steps will work even if you are not logged into the Chrome browser. All you need to do is visit the password management page and click the add button.

This feature is enabled by default in Chrome 100. Here’s how to enable it on Chrome 98 or Chrome 99 versions:

  • Go to chrome://flags
  • Search for “password”, in the drop-down menu for “Add password to settings”, select Enabled
  • Set the Add Passwords in Settings value to Allow
  • Restart your browser.
