Edge is integrating text prediction capabilities, recommending the most appropriate words as users type

Microsoft is working on an interesting feature for the Chromium-based Edge browser — text prediction. This feature uses artificial intelligence and deep learning technology to recommend the most appropriate vocabulary when users type on the web page. This feature is rolling out to select Canary Channel users on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The text prediction feature of Microsoft Edge is similar to how predictions work in Microsoft Editor or Outlook. For example, if you want to accept Microsoft’s text prediction, you just need to hit the Tab key or the right arrow key. If you want to ignore this suggestion, you can keep typing and the preview will disappear.

According to Microsoft’s roadmap, text predictions will soon be available to other users to help them write better online messages. If you’re using Edge Dev or Canary, you can try experimental text prediction by making sure your device’s region and language are set to the US.

The new features in Microsoft Edge should help you write faster and with fewer mistakes when browsing search engines or social media sites. When the feature is enabled, Edge will display its predictions or suggestions in a grayed-out suggestion box while you’re writing online.

If you accept the suggestion with Tab or Right Arrow, it will automatically be inserted into your note. Additionally, Edge’s predictive features only work on Windows 10 or Windows 11. It’s unclear when the feature will be added to the macOS release. Microsoft is planning to add support for more regions in upcoming updates.
