Blizzard Employee: Blizzard Survival has been in development for nearly 5 years

Blizzard currently has no plans to share more details on the survival games it plans to launch in the future. The game’s only current title is Unannounced Survival Game. Although unannounced, the company has not barred current and former Blizzard developers from speaking publicly about their involvement in the project.

Based on the information they have released so far, we can learn two things: first, people who know the project are very interested in the new work, and second, the project has been in development in some form for more than four and a half years.

The director of development for this unannounced survival game is Craig Amai. He tweeted that the game started as a small project he made on his PC, a tiny proposition to the company. According to Amai’s current LinkedIn profile, he left the World of Warcraft development team in July 2017 and began to lead the development of the new survival game, which has been 4 years and 7 months since then.

Previously Amai joined the company in 2004 as a Senior Game Master. This amazing job post offers in-game customer support for all abilities, primarily for World of Warcraft. He then became a senior designer for World of Warcraft and then chief character designer. He had been working on the World of Warcraft development team until he proposed a survival game in 2017.

We also know that the survival game is already in the playable stage. Blizzard President Mike Ybarra tweeted that he had played for hours with the development team. In addition, recent PC Gamer editors also discovered that Riot Games’ executive director of Game of Thrones Geoffrey Virtue also co-led the development of the survival game project from 2019 to 2021.

It’s going to be a project that will have a big impact on the (gaming) industry, Virtue said of the game this week. By July of this year, Blizzard’s survival game project will be five years old.
