Sony revealed in its earnings report that they plan to launch at least 10 live-service games by March 2026. Speaking about the recent $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie, CFO Hiroki Totoki revealed that the Destiny developer is developing a major new IP and that the company plans to leverage Bungie’s expertise in instant services in the future.
When it comes to what Bungie will bring to PlayStation, Totoki said: It’s a very strong desire for our studio to learn from Bungie, and the Bungie side would love to work closely with us.

PlayStation is well known to players for its ability to develop high-quality stand-alone games, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, The Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima. But last May, Sony said it planned to develop more service-led first-party gaming experiences, while also enhancing the PC and mobile experience.

Industry insiders 602 believe that Sony is really looking to expand PlayStation, especially from the first-party games, which means that Sony will launch a strong 3A single-player game and multiplayer game combination in the future.
That’s why Sony is funding third-party studios like Firewalk, Deviation, etc. But the development of 3A-level instant service games does not mean the disappearance of 3A stand-alone games.
