Tesla to expand parts production in Shanghai to meet export demand

According to the latest report, Tesla plans to expand parts production at its Shanghai plant to meet growing export demand, according to a filing with the Shanghai government.

Currently, Tesla’s Shanghai plant has an annual production capacity of 450,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. Last year, it sold more than 470,000 Chinese-made vehicles.

In 2021, more than 160,000 Chinese-made Tesla vehicles will be sold overseas, according to Xinhua.

In addition, the Beijing Daily reported last November that Tesla plans to invest 1.2 billion yuan (about 190 million U.S. dollars) to expand the production capacity of its Shanghai factory and enable it to employ 4,000 more people there.
