OnePlus promised to solve the Gallery problem (fix already spotted)

An annoying problem has been complained about for several months by OnePlus users regarding the official OnePlus Gallery application: the app freezes when you try to share images. Fortunately, the Chinese manufacturer has made public its commitment to solving it and, indeed, the first users have already started to spot the fix.

As you can read in this thread opened on the official OnePlus forum, the team says it has read the numerous reports received from the Community and immediately got to work to find a solution.

Unfortunately, it seems that the OnePlus Gallery problem is related to the Google Messages application, which is why it took more time to develop the necessary fix. The release of the latter is expected within a week, but in the meantime, suggestions are given that users afflicted by the problem can put into practice to buffer it momentarily:

  • Open the Google Play Store and search for Google Messages (via the search field or directly in the list of installed apps)
  • Once you’ve found the app, uninstall all Google Messages updates to bring it back to an older version
  • Make sure you have disabled (for now) the “Automatic app updates” in the Google Play Store Settings. Once the fix is released, it will be possible to reactivate them without any problems.

Fortunately, this may not be necessary: just 24 hours after the announcement, a user shared the following screenshot. As you can read clearly, the firmware version DN2101_11_A.18, which arrived with a 167 MB OTA file, reports a single novelty in the changelog:

System

  • Fixed freezing issue when sharing pictures in Gallery

In short, the mobilization of the community has pushed OnePlus to get busy, even if not exactly with the utmost diligence.
