Production of Apple’s iPhone 14 series has recently started, according to 9to5 Mac. Now, a report states that Samsung Display is adding new suppliers for OLED materials for the new iPhone 14 series.
South Korean media The Elec said that Samsung Display will add Solus Advanced Material as a supplier of the capping layer in its M12 OLED material group. The Korean company uses Hodogaya Chemical as a supplier for the latest M11 material group.
That said, Solus restarted production of these capping layers because it was responsible for the M10 material group before that, but did not enter the supply chain for the M11 material group.
“Samsung Display may also source G prime, another material for OLED production, from Merck DS, which previously only relied on DS Neolux,” the report said.
The OLED layers consist of an anode, hole insertion layer, hole transport layer, emission layer, electron transport layer, electron injection layer and cathode (anode-HIL-HTL-EML-ETL-EIL-cathode) starting from the bottom and stacked. The CPL is then placed on the cathode to tune the optical properties of the layer. The G prime is part of the emissive layer and supports the green color.
The Elec believes that Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones and iPhone 14 series will use this new M12 material group. If the previous revelations are true, the upcoming iPhone 14 series will have a good leap in-camera function, and will also launch a new design with a punch-hole + pill-hole screen for the TrueDepth system.
