Instagram is now introducing automatically generated captions for feed videos. So those are not inserted by the video creators or the community, but by an AI algorithm. This function had been tested in English in the summer of 2021. But now the automatic subtitles start in other languages. Among them is also German.
Of course, this is intended to improve accessibility. People who are hard of hearing or deaf could particularly benefit from the subtitles. But the subtitles also offer advantages for all those who prefer to use Instagram without sound. Instagram plans to expand automatic subtitles to other interfaces, languages and countries in the future.
In order for the automatically generated videos to appear, however, the respective creators must activate the new subtitles function for their videos. The option for this can be found in the advanced settings in the Accessibility area.
