Sony suspends sales of PS series consoles and games in Russia or will suffer huge financial losses

Sony Corp has stopped selling all PlayStation game consoles and software in Russia, becoming the latest major brand to withdraw from Russia due to the Ukraine war. A representative of Sony’s video game division said in a statement on Wednesday that the company had suspended all software and hardware shipments in Russia and the launch of its new racing game GT Racing 7.

The PlayStation Store will also go offline in Russia. Sony also donated $2 million to support humanitarian aid. Sony’s decision is one of the biggest to date in the video game industry. Experts say the company’s operations in Russia are the largest of any console maker.

PlayStation has the largest installed base, so from a purely financial standpoint, if there’s one console company facing a particularly tough choice, it’s Sony, said Lewis Ward, director of IDC’s gaming division.
