Gurman: Apple’s MacBook Air is delayed until the second half of the year and the new MacBook Pro is delayed until 2023

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple appears to be delaying the release of the redesigned MacBook Air until later this year, and may not release the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro until 2023.

In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman said that Apple had initially planned to launch a new MacBook Air with a “new design, MagSafe, M2 chip, and more” in late 2021 or early 2022, but it now appears to have been pushed back to the second half of 2022.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects mass production of the new MacBook Air to begin late in the second quarter or early in the third quarter, suggesting the device could launch sometime around September.

Gurman also said he doesn’t expect Apple to update its high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models this year, with the updated “M2 Pro” and “M2 Max” chips more likely to be available next year. Gurman said the only MacBook Pro update this year could be the entry-level MacBook Pro, with a 13-inch display and an “M2” chip.

According to forecast information, by the end of 2022, Apple will launch a series of new Macs equipped with M2 chips, which indicates that the upgrade cycle of the company’s M-series chips is two years. In addition to the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro, the entry-level Mac mini, the 24-inch iMac and the new iPad Pro will also be candidates for the M2 chip, but the release dates for those devices are unclear.
