Google Pixel: Live View Exclusive now gets the new battery gauge

With a small update, Google is making the live display on Pixel phones even more powerful and extensive. This new update is once again a good example of the fact that the Pixel Feature Drop does not immediately bring all innovations to the devices via firmware updates.

The new battery indicator in the live display (formerly At a Glance) also requires a server-side update from Google, which has nothing to do with the new firmware. In any case, the new function is only now reaching the first users.

As Google announced, the Pixel Launcher’s live display widget shows the battery level of the connected Bluetooth device. This applies to both the home screen and the lock screen. See the graphic below:

The first American colleagues can report on the arrival of the new feature. Despite the latest software, nothing has arrived for me. The display for the battery level, once it has arrived, can also be switched off at any time via the live display settings.

So the live display can now inform us about the following things:

  • Door bell
  • Timer & Stopwatch
  • Bedtime
  • Fitness
  • The battery level of connected Bluetooth devices
  • Traffic information for commuters
  • Weather
  • Severe weather warnings
  • Information about travel
  • Calendar Appointments & Reminders
  • Information from the work profile

Colleagues say that other announced features could also be integrated silently and not visibly in the settings from now on. These include, according to Google, “safety check countdown from the Personal Safety app, reminders to turn off your alarm if the next day is a public holiday, and earthquake alerts for your area.”
