Apple announces 2022 online WWDC event to take place from June 6-10

Apple announced today that its 33rd Worldwide Developers Conference will run from Monday, June 6 to Friday, June 10. Like the past few WWDC events, the 2022 WWDC will be held online, with no in-person gatherings (but there will be a small number of offline events at headquarters that require registration).

Before 2020, Apple is hosting WWDC at the McKennelly Convention Center in San Jose, California, and thousands of developers and Apple employees will fly in from around the world to attend the event.

But in 2020 for well-known reasons, Apple launched a free online event for everyone to attend, and this approach will continue in 2022. At its core, WWDC has always been a forum for creating connections and building communities, said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of global developer relations and corporate and education marketing.

In this spirit, WWDC22 invites developers from all over the world to come together to discuss how their best ideas can be put into practice and driven forward by what is possible. We love connecting with our developers and we hope that all Participants felt energized from their experiences.

There is no fee to attend WWDC 2022, and all developers around the world can attend this virtual event. Apple plans to offer conferences and labs for developers to learn about new features and software updates that will be rolled out at the event, in addition to a traditional Swift student challenge.

Apple says this year’s event will feature more information sessions, more learning labs, more digital lounges to interact with attendees, and more localized content, with the aim of making WWDC22 a truly global Activity.

While the event will be digital, Apple is planning to hold a special event for developers and students at Apple headquarters on June 6, where they will watch the keynote video together. Space is of course limited, and Apple will Applications for in-person participation are accepted.

Developer sessions and information will be available on the Apple Developer website or through the dedicated Apple Developer app. Students can submit their Swift Playgrounds to the Swift Student Challenge starting today through April 25, and the winner will receive an exclusive prize at WWDC 2022. More information can be found on the Challenge’s dedicated website.

Apple is expected to hold an online keynote on the first day of WWDC to announce new software, including iOS 16, iPad OS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, and watchOS 9. It’s also possible that we’ll see new hardware at WWDC, such as a new Apple Mac Pro, an upgraded MacBook Air, and more.

Apple plans to provide more information to developers via email, the Apple Developer app, and the Apple Developer website before WWDC 2022 begins.
