Most developers say the PSVR2 technology can improve game performance and fidelity

WHILE SONY IS TIGHT-LIPPED ABOUT THE DETAILS OF THE PSVR2, SOME OF ITS CONFIGURATION DETAILS HAVE ALREADY BEGUN TO BE REVEALED, WITH ONE DEVELOPER PRAISING ITS FIXATION RENDERING AND EYE-TRACKING TECHNOLOGY, SAYING THE FEATURES WILL BE EASIER FOR DEVELOPERS TO DEVELOP AND IMPROVE GAME PERFORMANCE AND FIDELITY.

Recently, Brendan Walker, principal engineer at VR developer Porillac, said in an interview with Play Magazine (Polyarc is the developer of Moss 2) that on the current PSVR, game developers “waste a lot of rendering power and put details where they don’t actually need it,” due to a lack of fove point rendering capabilities.

Walker said that in the visual effects presented by the game, the human eye can only focus on “a narrow window”, and with the PSVR2’s eye-tracking function, developers will be able to prioritize it, which in turn will “improve performance and increase fidelity”.

According to Walker, this will also increase the lifespan of the PSVR2. “Sony was wise to adopt this console because you know, this hardware is expected to come out for a while,” he said. To extend the life cycle as long as possible, you need to optimize everywhere possible.

OF COURSE, SINCE SONY HASN’T ANNOUNCED THE LAUNCH DATE OF THE PSVR2 YET, IT’S UNCLEAR WHEN USERS WILL BE ABLE TO USE THE DEVICE AND EXPERIENCE NEW GAMES.
