Google had initially discarded Face-Unlock. It is still planned. The next Pixel Feature Drop is probably redeeming. Google had a plan for the Pixel 6 Pro, which had been discarded shortly before the market launch.
The then planned feature for Face-Unlock was not only not delivered at the market launch, but we are also still waiting for availability today. Another report confirms Google’s original and then discarded plans for the Pixel brand’s current flagship phone.
Google is said to have planned Face-Unlock alone for the Pixel 6 Pro. The more expensive model has a better front camera with a higher resolution and 94-degree viewing angle. Otherwise, there is no additional hardware, as was the case with the Pixel 4, for example. So it’s a pure software feature that you still don’t plan for the regular Pixel 6.

A source from our colleagues says that Google continues to plan face unlock for the Pixel 6 Pro and that finally with the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop in June. That would be a pleasing confirmation of the latest leaks. Nevertheless, I do not think we should rejoice too soon.
