Instagram is ready for NFTs: testing begins in the US this week

Last March Zuckerberg confirmed that NFTs, the non-fungible tokens, would soon be arriving on Instagram and Facebook and it seems that we are now. In fact, support for NFTs will arrive this week and will mainly concern Instagram and the US market, where a selection of NFT creators and collectors will be able to start showing their tokens on the social network. Later similar features will also arrive on Facebook and other markets.

NFTs ARRIVE IN FEED, STORIES AND MESSAGES

To illustrate the first details of the implementation we thought of the head of Instagram Adam Mosseri, who shared a short video in which he explains some important information of the operation, starting from the fact that the use of NFTs on Instagram does not involve costs added for users and artists.

NFTs will be defined as digital collectibles and will be viewable in stories, messages and feeds. By clicking on the tag of an NFT it will be possible to obtain additional information such as details about the creator and its current owner.

Mosseri also announced that this first implementation will start on purpose in a very soft way, as the company wants to collect feedback from the community and wants to avoid creating conflicts between the world of Web3 – decentralized by nature – and a large centralized reality such as Instagram.

Mosseri also argues that the support of NFT by the social network will allow the technology to be accepted by a greater number of users, thus helping its diffusion, but this is still to be seen as it is not clear what the response from the public will be. towards this novelty. Pending more official details, the latest reports indicated that Instagram will be compatible with NFTs created on Ethereum, Polygon, Solana and Flow. Below you can find the video of Mosseri.
