Gurman: iOS 16 will include new system interactions and fresh Apple apps

iOS 16 will include new ways to interact with the system and some “fresh Apple apps,” said Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who provided some more details on Apple’s preparations for the upcoming iOS and iPadOS releases, which will be announced at WWDC in a few weeks.

In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Gurman wrote that while iOS 16 isn’t likely to offer major changes to the operating system, it will include new ways to interact and some “fresh Apple apps.”

Since iOS 14 overhauled gadgets, users have been hoping that Apple would introduce interactive gadgets in iOS. Widgets are largely unchanged in iOS 15, they are still non-interactive, so major widget changes may come in iOS 16. He stated:

While I wouldn’t expect a complete software redesign from Apple, there should be major changes to the entire system, with new ways to interact and some fresh Apple apps. News about watchOS 9 will also be important.

Gurman added that watchOS 9 will also be a “significant” update. It was previously reported that OS 16’s notification system and new health and fitness tracking features are being revamped.
