iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura devices support seamless switching of FaceTime calls

Apple released iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura system, and has released the first developer preview Beta. In iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, the FaceTime app finally supports Handoff, which means it’s possible to switch a FaceTime call from one device to another.

If you get a “FaceTime” call on your iPhone while you’re out and about, you can answer it while you’re on the road, then switch to the larger Mac screen when you get home. Alternatively, you can take calls on your Mac and transfer them to your iPhone or iPad for a more portable FaceTime experience.

When a FaceTime call is switched, the connected Bluetooth headset is also transferred to the new device, so your call won’t be interrupted by the transfer.

Apple has also added support for Live Captions in FaceTime, allowing automatically transcribed conversations to be seen during a FaceTime call. Live captions are available in English only on iPhone 11 and later, iPad with A12 Bionic and later, and Mac with Apple silicon.

In addition to these new features, Apple has also added a “Collaboration” option that can be activated during a “FaceTime” call. Collaboration can be started during an active FaceTime call and used with applications including Files, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Notes, Reminders, and Safari. Third-party applications will also be able to support collaboration.
