Google Maps now shows air quality levels around users

Google Maps is now a breath of fresh air for you. With this update, Google Maps will alert you to air levels near you so you can make more informed decisions about when to travel and how long to spend outdoors.

What you’ll see is the AQI or Air Quality Index numbers, along with guidance on outdoor activities, when the information was last updated and links to learn more. These data come from trusted government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States. The map also shows air quality information from PurpleAir, a network of low-cost sensors that can give you a hyper-local condition.

To add this air quality layer to your map, you’ll need to tap the button in the top right corner of your phone’s screen, then select Air Quality under Map Details. Information from PurpleAir is also available on Nest monitors and speakers.
