AMD released a driver update for Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1, which brings some new features, such as greatly enhanced OpenGL performance, and also includes support for Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 11 22H2 version. Support and function extensions.
The biggest change to this driver is the introduction of the OpenGL performance optimization that was just tested last month. AMD this time showed a popular game based on OpenGL – “Minecraft”. In terms of performance results, the AMD RX 6950XT has a full 79% improvement in Minecraft performance, and a 75% improvement when using the RX 6400.
AMD claims that Minecraft OpenGL is up to 92% faster when running Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs at 4K, but unfortunately no other games or specific GPU configurations are mentioned or given.
In addition, the new version of the driver also adds support for Microsoft Agility SDK 1.602 and 1.606, including Microsoft Shader Model 6.7, and brings more stable support for Radeon graphics cards in Microsoft Windows 11 22H2. At the same time, the company has also introduced AMD’s Noise Suppression feature in the driver kit as a competitor to Nvidia’s RTX voice.
AMD said: “AMD Noise Reduction technology uses real-time deep learning algorithms to reduce background audio noise from your surroundings, delivering clearer sound and improved concentration whether you’re concentrating on an important meeting or a competitive game. ”
Other changes and drivers include Radeon Boost support for Ayrden Circle, Resident Evil Village, and Valorant’s Radeon Super Resolution, and AMD laptops now support the use of borderless windowed mode for running games.
Issues fixed in this driver:
- Folding@home compute performance using OpenCL API is lower than expected on some AMD graphics products (eg Radeon RX 6800).
- Automatic Undervoltage may disable the zero-speed fan function.
- Hitman 3 may freeze when switching windows quickly in fullscreen exclusive mode.
- Some AMD graphics products (eg Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics) have blurry video upscaling in the browser.
- Enhanced Sync may cause the game to lock to 15FPS when playing video on extended monitors.
Known issues are as follows:
- Playing Call of Duty: Warzone with some AMD graphics products (eg Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card) on the Caldera map may experience looping audio issues.
- Radeon Super Resolution may not trigger after changing resolution or HDR settings on games like Nioh 2.
- VR headsets may experience flickering with some AMD graphics products such as the Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card.
- After closing the game on some AMD graphics products (eg Radeon 570), GPU utilization may show as 100%.
- The display may flicker/blank when playing videos and games on some AMD graphics products such as the Radeon RX 6700 XT.
- Enabling Enhanced Sync on some games and system configurations may result in a black screen. Any users who may be having trouble enabling Enhanced Sync can disable it as a temporary workaround.
