According to Reddit, when users use banking apps on the Pixel 7 Pro they are unable to use the face-unlocking feature. It looks like due to unreliable hardware, the face unlock is not working as it does on the Pixel 4 smartphones due to the dedicated hardware. This is because some banking apps work on fingerprint sensors.

This unlocking feature of the phone seems to be solely for phone unlocking purposes as of now. The biometric sensor on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro seems to be of Class 1 which prohibits its use for the App and APIs that requires BIOMETRIC_STRONG authentication.
