On Pixel Watch and other Wear OS old watch faces won’t support

On 6 October 2022 Google launched its first Pixel Watch along with the Pixel 7 series smartphones. Pixel Watch smartwatch also can access third-party watch faces the same as other watches. In this users can be deeply customizable as per their like. Google-made Pixel Watch faces are impressive. Some users still like the old watch faces. The old watch face doesn’t have the latest watch support. Now, old watch faces won’t support always-on display.

On initial testing, we haven’t been able to replicate this on a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. Having to tap to turn on the screen if the raise-to-wake gesture is disabled (to conserve battery life) defeats the purpose of an AOD.

It’d be particularly annoying if your hands aren’t free or if you’re glancing at your wrist from an angle. As per one developer, this issue impacts clocks that aren’t built using the Jetpack Watch Face library.

That’s meant to replace the previous Wearable Support Library approach and hit stable in December of 2021. Their bug filing notes how the Pixel Watch’s stock faces use Jetpack. Google initially closed the bug report on Friday but has reopened it as of Monday morning and is looking into the problem more closely.

Lastly, if users want to use their favorite watch face on the latest smartwatch they need to upgrade them.
