Chamberlain’s MyQ garage door openers, known for their convenience and functionality, have encountered a setback in their smart home integration. Despite having ample time for preparation, users are now facing the loss of Google Assistant support—a development that may be attributed to Chamberlain’s decisions.
Unlike some other systems, MyQ garage door openers operate through a Google Assistant “app” rather than direct integration as a smart home device. Consequently, commands to control garage doors involve phrasing such as “Hey Google, ask MyQ to close the garage door.” Additionally, these doors do not function within the Google Home app, unlike certain other compatible devices.
Recently, numerous users have reported that the integration between Google Assistant and MyQ is displaying a warning message stating that the service is “no longer available.” Although the message lacks specificity, those affected claim that the integration has simply ceased to function.

Chamberlain’s support page acknowledges that the MyQ integration with Assistant is solely accessible to current MyQ users and is not supported for new users. Furthermore, it highlights that unlinking one’s account will render it impossible to relink the account.
It is uncertain when these changes were implemented on the support page, but within the past two days, reports of this issue have surfaced on platforms such as Reddit and MyQ integration reviews. While not all users appear to be affected, the problem is widespread.
This timing seems unlikely to be coincidental. In June 2022, Google announced the discontinuation of support for Google Assistant’s conversational actions, which is the integration method employed by Chamberlain. Developers received ample notice regarding this impending change.
However, Chamberlain seemingly chose not to provide an alternative solution for its users. While there are other garage door openers that seamlessly integrate with the Google Home ecosystem, Chamberlain explicitly states that linking MyQ with Google Assistant enables voice control, while the MyQ garage door opener remains absent from the Google Home app. Notably, Chamberlain discontinued a product last year that facilitated MyQ opener compatibility with Apple’s HomeKit.
Naturally, Chamberlain’s integration loss is not the only consequence of this decision. As previously reported, it has also resulted in the removal of games, children’s books, and other features. Nonetheless, Chamberlain had a clear alternative available in this instance.
