Google’s future Pixel devices could be manufactured in India

Google is reportedly following Apple’s footsteps in diversifying its production process by considering India as a manufacturing hub for upcoming generations of Google Pixel devices. Recent rumors suggest that the tech giant has initiated negotiations with Indian authorities and has approached prominent companies such as Lava International, Dixon Technologies India, and Bharat FIH (the Indian division of Foxconn Technology Group), as reported by Bloomberg.

These companies stand to benefit from incentives introduced by the Indian government to promote local production, and Google sees this as an opportunity to reduce its dependence on China and mitigate potential production delays or trade restrictions due to geopolitical tensions between the United States and China. Similar concerns have been expressed by Apple, underscoring the importance of diversifying production locations.

Prior to engaging with Indian companies, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, held an official meeting with Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Indian Minister for Information Technology. If successful, these negotiations would position Google alongside prominent technology brands like Samsung, Apple, and OPPO, who have already established India as a key manufacturing hub.

While awaiting official confirmation, it remains to be seen how Chinese authorities will perceive Google’s decision and the timeline for the launch of “Made in India” Google Pixel devices by the Mountain View giant.
