Xiaomi 14 and Redmi Note 13 expected to feature MIUI 15, Android 14 upgrade uncertain

Xiaomi, renowned for its smartphones, has been known to have a mixed track record when it comes to delivering timely software updates. Despite promising developments shared by reputable insiders, a significant caveat must be considered. The focus today is on the Xiaomi 14 and Redmi Note 13 series, both slated for release in 2023.

Anticipated to debut in China later this year, the Redmi Note 13 devices are expected to arrive slightly earlier than the Xiaomi 14 and its Pro variant, possibly around the year-end. These new Android smartphones are likely to come pre-installed with the latest MIUI 15, developed by Xiaomi.

However, it is important to note that this does not guarantee the inclusion of Android 14, the forthcoming operating system scheduled for a summer 2023 release. Even if the devices become available globally in 2024, the availability of Android 14 is not assured. Xiaomi has traditionally varied its software offerings based on the processors used, resulting in some devices featuring Android 13 while others have Android 14.

Regrettably, there is currently no indication of a change in Xiaomi’s software strategy. This is particularly relevant regarding their update commitment, which is presently limited to their premium-priced devices. Despite the potential cost of around 500 euros for a Redmi Note 13 Pro+, there is no explicit assurance of future updates—at least from the current perspective.
