Google has unveiled a comprehensive overhaul of the account switcher utilized across a spectrum of its applications, including Google Search, Gmail, and Docs. This innovative redesign introduces an expanded user interface (UI) adorned with the distinctive aesthetics of Material You.
Although the inception of the Material You design language dates back to Android 12’s launch in 2021, accompanied by subsequent visual revamps of numerous apps, Google is diligently refining its approach to ensuring a coherent representation of its applications and services across diverse platforms – Android, ChromeOS, and the web.
A notable case in point is the omnipresent Google Account switcher, conventionally positioned in the upper-right corner of most Google web applications. Initially influenced by Material You, characterized by rounded corners, an elegant off-white backdrop, and judicious employment of shadows, the company has chosen to embark on a renewed endeavor to enhance its design, as observed by some members of our team.
The reimagined Google Account switcher redirects its focus from mere account switching to comprehensive account management. Prominently showcased at the forefront is the presently selected Google Account, accentuated by the display of the profile image beneath the associated email address. The once-rounded rectangle, housing the “Manage your Google Account” prompt, has been substituted with an oblong pill-shaped button.
Subsequent Google Accounts are neatly enumerated beneath this button, accompanied by the option to collapse this list, thereby economizing space. Significantly, an overall darkening of color hues is discernible in this new rendition.
However, the most conspicuous modification in this fresh design lies in the considerable enlargement of the Google Account switcher, both vertically and horizontally.
Concurrently with this novel switcher, analogous refinements have been introduced to the app launcher, conveniently accessible by clicking the grid-like icon adjacent to the profile picture in the upper-right corner. This revamped feature now boasts elegantly curved corners and resonates with the same subtle shades of light blue, characteristic of Google’s static Material You design philosophy.
