OLED display adoption rate expected to increase

According to the latest report from the Market research firm Omdia, the TFT-LCD will maintain its dominant technology position in the industrial display market, but the OLED need will also increase.

TFT-LCD-based industrial display panel sizes mainly range from 1 to 27 inches. Among these, more than half are products smaller than 10.1 inches. Industrial displays have various specifications depending on customer needs and are produced as customized products. The business portfolio of panel companies includes open cells, modules, and touch panel modules or sets.

Major manufacturers in the industrial display market include Tienma, BOE, Innolux, AUO Display Plus (ADP), and Truly. It is estimated that Chinese companies will account for 59% of industrial display shipments in 2023.

Omdia said, “Recently, Korean and Chinese panel manufacturers are actively investing in AMOLED technology to secure potential opportunities in the industrial display market as well as IT product displays,” adding, “It is widely used in home appliances, game consoles, translation pens, portable monitors, gas stations, etc. “Some industrial applications, such as industrial portable devices and in-flight entertainment, have begun to adopt AMOLED instead of TFT-LCD,” he said. “AMOLED has the potential to grow in the industrial display market in the coming years,” he said. “Since TFT-LCD is expected to maintain its position as the main display technology, the development of new and innovative applications will be important to secure business growth opportunities in the coming years.”
