Disney will launch MagicMobile service to allow tourists to use iPhone for contactless entry

According to CNET, in a blog post on Friday, Disney announced plans to launch MagicMobile, a new service that allows tourists to use iPhone or Apple Watch for contactless entry like MagicBand. The service will first be launched in Disney World, Florida, and is expected to be launched in other parks in phases throughout 2021.

“The Disney MagicMobile service is a convenient, non-contact way to access MagicBand features, such as the entrance of a theme park, through the power of your iPhone, Apple Watch or other smart devices,” Disney wrote in its blog post. “It works like magic-just lift your smart device near the access point, just like you use MagicBand, and you can use most of the features.”

Visitors will be able to create a Disney MagicMobile pass through the “My Disney Experience” app and add it to the digital wallet of a smart device. Just like using MagicBand, most features can be used by simply placing the smart device near the access point. The Disney MagicMobile service and its features will be launched on Apple devices first.

This contactless method was introduced at the time of the launch of the new crown vaccine, when more and more people may weigh safety issues when evaluating travel and vacation plans.

It is unclear when Disney will launch the service on other devices such as Android, or whether MagicMobile will be launched in other Disney parks in 2021. Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
