Google promotes new measures to make Android apps download, open, and run faster

In 2018, Google introduced the Android App Bundle, which can help app developers greatly reduce the APK file capacity, and can provide functions as needed instead of bundling all the features at once. In order to further improve the application experience of end-users, reduce user download capacity and increase the speed of opening applications, Google is launching a new initiative called App Install Optimization.

Quoting the latest report, Google will collect the interaction data between you and the newly installed application after the App Install Optimization feature is enabled, or which parts of the application you have visited when you open the application after the first installation. Google will collect this data from a large user base and combine it to find common behaviors and determine which parts of the application are more important. Google said that using this information, it can speed up the installation, opening and running time of an application.

Google promises that the App Install Optimization function will not collect any user data such as email, name or local. Google stated that the purpose of these data is:

  • Speed up the installation speed of apps from Google Play
  • Reduce the time to open and run applications
  • Reduce the pressure on the device’s CPU, battery and storage.

The App Install Optimization feature is optional, and users can decide to enable/disable it in the Google Play App Store. Google’s support page states that even if you disable this feature, you can still benefit from data collected from other users.
