The first candidate version of Linux Lite 5.6 was released today, and the new version is based on Ubuntu 20.04.2. This version uses the Linux Kernel 5.4.0-80 kernel, but users can also choose other kernel versions from 3.13-5.13 according to their needs. The new version is also pre-built with some excellent software packages, including Firefox 89.0.2, Thunderbird 78.11.0, LibreOffice 6.4.7.2, VLC 3.0.9.2 and GIMP 2.10.18.
Linux Lite 5.6 RC1 brings 7 brand new wallpapers and a brand new Papirus icon theme. Since this is a pre-release version of the operating system, there are bound to be many surprising bugs. Of course, there are also some known issues; the developers share these issues below:
- There is no prompt of media pop-up at the end of the Legacy installation, and there is a prompt at the end of UEFI installation.
- Release notes-does not work on the first slide of the installer.
- Desktop icons-only English is supported.
- Grub-Holding down the shift key while booting in UEFI mode will not pop up the Grub menu (valid in Legacy mode), waiting for Ubuntu to fix it.
- The Grub menu shows that Linux Lite is Ubuntu.
