Here’s the new old Google Assistant design on the Pixels

In recent days, Google Assistant has begun to change the graphics setting again on the Pixel series smartphones, re-embracing that semi-transparent UI that had been set aside just a month ago. We recently told you about several interesting news in relation to the Google Virtual Assistant, from the call function for the Pixels to the new collaboration, up to the improvements to the guide mode. Now we are dealing with a much less impacting issue on the concrete use of Assistant by the owners of Made by Google smartphones.

At the beginning of August, we told you how the new Google Assistant had lost the beautiful semi-transparent UI, but now it is getting it back on the Pixel series smartphones. It remains only to understand what Google’s intentions are for the future.

We need to rewind the tape until Google I/O 2019 to get to the first teaser of the new Google Assistant, launched a few months later with Google Pixel 4 and Google Pixel 4 XL. Net of the practical changes (above all, on-device processing ), it was the new UI that visually marked the transition to the new version.

The Mountain View company, as you know, had opted for a semi-transparent user interface – with the usual Hello, how can I help you? and the commands for text input and Snapshot -, as if to symbolize the positioning of Google Assistant in the background.

A month ago, on the Pixels, that UI had given way to a compact card, white or gray depending on the light or dark theme active on the smartphone, with the monochrome Assistant logo in the center, the usual offer of help and the shortcut for text entry (no Snapshot). We report below the screenshots we had already shown you in August.

Well, now it seems that Google has decided to retrace its steps: with the beta version 12.37 of the Google app, the semi-transparent UI is back on the Pixel. At this point, however, with Android 12 and the Google Pixel 6 at the door, it is difficult to predict whether the Google Assistant will remain that way or if it will change its appearance once again.
