McCree renamed the first step, Overwatch has removed McCree related voices

As the Blizzard scandal and litigation continue, the Overwatch team seems to have taken the first step to adjust the voice of the hero McRae. The name of the Overwatch hero McRae comes from Jesse McCree of the former Blizzard Diablo team in real life. Earlier this year, he was exposed as a member of the Cosby Suite group chat. This is a group of Blizzard Group chat between notorious male employees.

With the increase in allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination against Blizzard women, California filed a lawsuit earlier this year, Jesse McCree left the company, and the Overwatch team announced that it would rename the game’s character, McCree.

A month later, the renaming process seems to have begun. Reddit user Doctor Deadeye pointed out that almost all voice lines that include the name Jesse McCree have been deleted from the latest version of Watching the Pioneers. McCree’s other personal voices and interactions remain, but he (and other characters) will no longer speak his name.

There are only three voices that have not been deleted. Two of them are the rebirth voice of McCree and the copied voice of Echo. DoctorDeadeye pointed out that these two voices are necessary for gameplay and provide important information for players.

The last one is a dialogue between Torbjörn and McCree. Torbjörn asks McCree what happened to his arm. DoctorDeadeye speculates that this may mean that in the upcoming McCree story, players may eventually find out what event caused McCree to obtain the robotic arm.

Although this is just speculation, the developers have confirmed that McCree should launch a new storyline before the scandal broke out, but it was replaced by the map of Malewindo, which gave the development team more time to think about MaCree. Give a new name.
