Microsoft is planning to introduce a new ‘Time and Date’ tool for PowerToys

In PowerToys 0.56.1, released a few days ago, Microsoft introduced a number of fixes and improvements. In the new version, Microsoft provides 128 layouts for FancyZones and provides a new way to trigger the Find My Cursor tool. In future plans, Microsoft plans to bring more new features to PowerToys.

While improving the existing Window Walker module, Microsoft and other contributors are also working on adding a new time and date tool, according to Pull Requests ( 1 ), ( 2 ) on GitHub. Time and Date is a new plugin for PowerToys Run. It can display the specified date and time in various formats and copy each result to the clipboard.

For example, you can ask PowerToys Run to display the current date and time, the day of the week, the day of the month, the day of the year, and so on. PowerToys will provide a range of customization options, such as including or excluding global results (you can trigger the plugin with a predefined hotkey), displaying the time in seconds, or hiding error messages.

In addition to the new Time and Date module, PowerToys Run will get an improved Window Walker (a tool that uses the launcher to find running applications and windows). The upcoming version will let you close windows and kill processes without having to start the task manager or switch to the app you need. Also, if the user has more than one desktop, Window Walker will display the desktop name of the specified application next to its process ID.

In typical PowerToys fashion, the updated Window Walker will have options for personalizing the user experience. These include features such as showing processes only from the visible desktop, ending a process and its children, asking for confirmation before “killing” an application, personalizing tooltips, and more.
