Under the guise of Waymo, Google is developing an autonomous future. Self-driving cars are now in another city. You may have heard of Waymo before and maybe even seen their first cars.
The Google subsidiary has been building autonomous cars for several years, which means they can drive through the streets themselves. Now the company has released a new video showing such a ride. It’s a short video, but very impressive. The converted i-Pace drives through San Francisco.
For me, it is still inconceivable that cars could one day move so intelligently through the streets. This goes far beyond how autonomous driving works, which few manufacturers already offer for their vehicles today. Waymo says they’re just starting to drive fully autonomously around San Francisco with new cars for the first few days.
We’re taking the next step in our journey—both in San Francisco and in Phoenix. Last week, our employees began taking fully autonomous rides in the City by the Bay, and soon we’ll be expanding our Waymo One Trusted Tester program into Downtown Phoenix. https://t.co/oSjVNFQmn0 pic.twitter.com/rum953SOc9

This morning in San Francisco, a fully autonomous, all-electric Jaguar I-PACE with no human driver at the wheel picked up a Waymo engineer to get his morning coffee and go to work. Since announcing that we are ready to take the next step and begin testing fully autonomous operations in the city, we have started fully autonomous driving with our employees in San Francisco. They are now joining the thousands of Waymo One drivers we have mentored in Arizona and are making fully autonomous driving technology a part of their daily lives.
