Chrome/Chromium is experimenting with Qt backends

Beginning this week, the Chromium project conducted a public code review of the Open Source Google browser supported by the Qt platform. For now, it appears that Google is at least evaluating the prospects for Qt Toolkit support for the Chromium/Chrome UI. One of the people involved revealed the newly launched Gerrit code review, which would allow Qt to support Chromium.

What opens this week is Qt platform foundation support work in Chromium, as well as the addition of Qt to sys root. Chromium platform support is labeled “[DO NOT LAND]” with the hashtag “work in progress”, so it’s at least still in its early stages, and at this point, it may be more of a proof of concept than a concrete action plan. Regardless, it’s an interesting topic to see how much interest Google has in using Qt in the Chromium/Chrome web browser.
