Samsung SmartThings: Partners can test the Standard Matter

Samsung SmartThings will soon be getting even more hardware “on board” that can be supported. The company has started an early program in which other manufacturers can apply their products in relation to the upcoming Standard Matter.

The matter is based on three technologies as standard: Bluetooth LE for set-up, Wi-Fi for use when high bandwidths are required, e.g. B. Video streaming via a camera, and the fledgling Thread protocol for, for example, motion sensors and other scenarios in which little bandwidth is required (we have already mentioned lamps from Nanoleaf, Eve hardware and the HomePod mini as a border router several times). Interfaces of apps for automation will work as before, only under the hood everything should at best be compatible.

Currently in this program are Aeotec, Aqara, Eve Systems, Leedarson, Nanoleaf, Netatmo, Sengled, Wemo, WiZ and Yale. As a founding member of Matter, Samsung is excited about this development and the opportunity for partners to test their devices and Matter’s interoperability with Hub-enabled devices and via the SmartThings app. Partners can also use the SmartThings app to seamlessly onboard their devices.

At the Samsung developer conference, it was announced that Matter will offer Samsung’s Galaxy devices, TVs and Family Hub devices the widest range of connectivity options via SmartThings. Integrating SmartThings hub functionality into these devices will make it easier for users to experience the benefits of connected living without the need for a separate smart home hub.
