Samsung Galaxy S22 new colorway is so purple that important things are said twice

Samsung today unveiled a new purple colorway for the Galaxy S22, previously officially dubbed “Bora Purple.” As the company’s press release notes, “Bora” is Korean for “purple,” which means the new color is actually called “purple.” It goes on sale on August 10 for $799.99, the same price as the original Galaxy S22.

Since its launch, the base model of Samsung’s latest flagship lineup has had a very similar color, which the company calls “purple.” But the previous one was much lighter, close to pink, and was two-tone, with gold details on the camera bump and around the frame of the phone. The new purple is completely uniform, with more or less the same color on the back of the phone, the camera bump, and the bezel.

Samsung’s announcement says more devices will feature this color scheme later this year. “We’re excited to launch Bora Purple, first for the S22, but also for the exciting new Galaxy devices later this year,” said Samsung Electronics’ Stephanie Choi. With the new colors launching on August 10, the same day as Samsung’s next Unpacked event, we’ll likely see these upcoming devices on that day.

While the previous purple was exclusively available online and could only be purchased directly from Samsung, the new purple is available from a range of different resellers in addition to the company’s own online store. These resellers include AT&T, T-Mobile, UScellular, Verizon and Xfinity Mobile.
