Microsoft releases Windows 11 25158 Dev Preview update

Microsoft today pushed the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25158 version to all Dev developers, introducing a notification badge with widgets. In this version, Microsoft fixes the long-standing problem of WiFi hotspots causing network disconnection and also points out that some games using Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause a computer to blue screen in the new version.

In addition, Microsoft also released the installation image of this version.

Notification markers for Widgets

Microsoft announced that it will roll out more dynamic Widgets content on your taskbar starting with this version and add notification badges to these Widgets. For example, the figure below is an example of a notification markup for Widgets.

Additionally, when you open the widgets panel, you can see a banner at the top where Microsoft says it will provide more information about triggering the notification badge. It is worth mentioning that Microsoft previously announced that the Dev channel will be in A/B testing mode, so not all Insiders can experience this new feature.

Changes in the new version

[General]

Thanks to everyone in the industry who gave us feedback on our first exploration of lightweight interactions for the Windows desktop! Starting with this week’s preview, we’re wrapping up the initial exploration process, so if you’ve received this new feature, it will be removed on your next reboot.

Starting with this release, Microsoft will provide different “Search” effects on the taskbar for different devices. Of course, after updating to the latest version, a restart is required to trigger this feature, and this new feature is also not available to everyone.

[TLS-based DNS]

DNS over TLS testing now supports Windows DNS client query protection. DoT is another protocol in addition to DNS over HTTPS (DoH), which is already supported by Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.

The Nyala font has been updated to now support syllables from the Gurage language orthography of the Ethiopic Extended-B Unicode range. Ethiopian kerning has also been revised and replaced to fix gaps and errors in earlier implementations, improving the overall texture of Ethiopian language text.
